Rebecca Krannichfeld
Rebecca Krannichfeld has had the soul of an artist since she was a little girl. Originally from Cleveland, Ohio, she moved to Maui sight unseen in 2001 and fell in love with the deep color and movement of the ocean, which has found its way wholeheartedly into the art she creates. In her free time, she loves to free-dive and surf and is constantly inspired by what she sees.
A mixed media artist using predominantly acrylic paints and clay, Rebecca is constantly pushing herself to try new techniques to further her skills. In her ceramic work, she tends to lean toward sgraffito and sculptural art. With sgraffito, she will cover the piece with underglaze and let it dry to leather hard before scratching a design into the surface to reveal the base color under-neath. With sculptures, she starts from slab rolling and building her form hollow using newspaper and foam to help keep the shape while drying. Once dry, the pieces will be bisque-fired then glaze-fired.
With her acrylic paintings she uses a wooden panel as her canvas. Foils and plaster are used to embellish her work. She tends to mix abstract with realism resulting in a unique final image.
